Purposes of the Course

To offer learning environments in which students can create a base of knowledge and an
understanding of principles and concepts that form the foundation of personal health.

To provide opportunities for students to become aware of the problems, interconnections and solutions to the major challenges of creating a personal state of wellness and living a healthy life.

To facilitate the development of student awareness of their current and desired states of wellness and personal health.

Course Format

The course will be structured within a four week period and consist of lecture-discussion sessions centered on the chapters assigned for reading and study. Testing in the course will consist of students answering all questions listed under "Learning Objectives" for each chapter assigned and handing them in to be graded at the beginning of each class session. The principle means for assessing student learning will be a Personal Reflective Learning Journal (see separate handout) in which responses to specific experiential activities will be recorded.

Grading Scale

A = 552 to 600 pts.;
B = 468 to 551 pts.;
C = 408 to 467 pts.;
D = 360 to 407 pts.;
F = less than 360 pts.

Incomplete grades (IN) will be granted only under extenuating circumstances over which the student had no control and by prior arrangement with the instructor.
