Cheri Brown
Sophomore Chemistry/ Math Major
Kristina Proctor's Laboratory
Project
Hi. My name is Cheri Brown. I am a sophomore
chemistry/math double major at the University of
Southern Colorado. I am currently working for Dr.
Kristina Proctor under a grant from the Colorado
Commission of Higher Education(CCHE). Dr. Proctor's
research interest includes surface characterization
and performance assessment of chemically modified
metal-oxides employed as catalysts and substrates for
high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). HPLC
is a widely used analytical tool that is used to study
chemical components within chemical and biological
samples. It is used extensively by such industries as
the pharmaceutical industry and in biomedical
research. Currently we are working on a kinetic study
the silica. We use a number of techniques and tools
such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy to
obtain our data.
In March of 2000 we will be traveling to San Francisco
to present a poster presentation of our findings at
the annual American Chemical Society meeting.
My goal after graduation is to become a forensic
chemist working for either the Colorado Bureau of
Investigations or the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
My interests include playing soccer and many outdoor
activities including hunting, fishing and canoeing
